As an open forum, Contending Modernities welcomes contributions from scholars, religious leaders, policy makers, and other interested and engaged citizens from around the world on the themes and issues noted here. We particularly welcome posts that are short—usually around 1,000 words—and timely—responsive to a recent or unfolding issue, event, or argument in the public domain. Contending Modernities editors reserves the right to revise, reject, or request the resubmission of any and all posts in accordance with editorial standards of length, clarity, civility, and consistency with its defining themes and issues. In addition, you are welcome to repost or redistribute content on this blog, for non-commercial purposes, with attribution to the author and to Contending Modernities.

Contending Modernities AI Policy

Contending Modernities publishes original scholarship and as such places limitations on the use of AI large language model generators for blog content. AI generated content is expressly not permitted, given the challenges of ownership and originality. We ask that all articles that use AI LLMs for editorial, translation, or research management tasks cite AI use, including the name of the AI generator, the date of access, the purpose of the AI use, and the prompts. 

For example: “Claude AI, https://claude.ai/chat/, used on September 10, 2025 to check language and grammar, using prompt “please review the following essay for spelling and grammar errors and suggest corrections.”
